The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore recently welcomed a male sitatunga calf named Marcus. The baby antelope weighs around 17 pounds and is very healthy.
Marcus, who was born on Sept. 10, is nursing well, according to zookeepers. Both he and his mother, Mousse, are meeting others in the zoo’s sitatunga herd.
Sitatunga are a species of antelope native to the marshes and flood plains of Central Africa. They are not endangered or threatened, but are vulnerable to over hunting and habitat loss.
Starting this week, visitors should be able to see Marcus and his mother in the sitatunga yard, next to the tortoises.
