More than 2,000 triathletes will take over the capitol of the United States, for the 2018 Nation’s Escape Triathlon. This year will mark the 13th year of this annual event, which includes an elite field of professional athletes competing for a $20,000 prize purse. West Potomac Park will host the challenging Olympic distance race, which will take participants on a 1.5k swim in the historic Potomac River past the Arlington Cemetery and under the Memorial Bridge; a 40k flat and fast bike ride past the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, WWII Memorial and Kennedy Center; and on a challenging 10k single loop run past the Jefferson Memorial, National Holocaust Museum, U.S. Mint, Tidal Basin and more. The sprint distance race will feature a 750m swim, a 26K bike ride and a 5k run, along the same course. The Nation’s Escape Triathlon is recognized as a bucket list race for triathletes, featuring one of the only opportunities for athletes to swim in the Potomac River and through DC’s historical landmarks.
