In 2017 the Maryland State Golf Association Women’s Division established a new golf ‘fun day’ for girls ages 8-16 who would like to know what golf is all about and those that may have dabbled a bit in the game. This event was named the ‘Junior Girls Season Opener’ and is open to all girls residing in the state of Maryland or D.C. between the ages of 8-16, who do not belong to, or have access to a private golf club.
Because last year was such a success, we decided to hold the 2018 Season Opener in two separate locations so that we can reach out to even more girls. The first will be held at Argyle Country Club on Saturday, June 2nd. The second Opener will be at Hillendale Country Club on Sunday, June 3rd. The times for both days will be from 11:30-5:15 for girls ages 12-16, and 1:00-5:15 for girls ages 8-11.
The event is free of charge, but is limited to the first 50 girls who register (per location). A wait list will be established in the case of a ‘sell out’.
The day will consist of learning stations (golf fitness, rules & etiquette, long game, chipping, bunkers, & putting) taught by some of the best PGA professionals, fitness instructors, and rules officials in the state. After everyone has had their fill of instruction, and of lunch, the girls will go out on the golf course and play 1-3 holes (depending on age.) The day will wrap up with ice cream and gifts.
