Chesapeake Shakespeare Company Presents A Christmas Carol, a Charles Dickens’ Classic with a Twist

scrooge-and-christmas-presentThis holiday season, take the whole family to enjoy an original adaptation of the classic favorite, A Christmas Carol, with this twist: Ebenezer Scrooge lives in Charm City and the play is set in Baltimore’s business district, circa 19th century.

Kids of all ages and their parents will delight in the Charles Dickens’ script in which the old crotchety Scrghost-of-christmas-presentooge visits his past, present and future, eventually finding himself transformed from curmudgeonly old man to a gentleman filled with generosity.

Along with 11 child actors from area schools, the play’s professional actors make the performance come alive. Gregory Burgess, a Chesapeake Shakespeare Company Resident Acting member who plays Scrooge, gives an especially standout performance. The audience gets a special treat as they witnesses the transformation of Schildren-in-a-christmas-carolcrooge’s performance up close in this intimate setting. In this historic property-turned-Elizabethan-style playhouse at 7 South Calvert Street in downtown Baltimore, a thoughtful renovation provides the intimate setting that allows audiences to connect closely to the performers and the stories they reveal.

Performances of A Christmas Carol run through December 23, 2016. For more information, visit the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company website at http://www.chesapeakeshakespeare.com/.
