It’s that time of year again: Kids shoulders are slumping, and parents are getting a little pep in their step. School is just about to be back in session—and, fittingly, Maryland’s Tax-Free Shopping Week is about to begin. Running from Aug. 14-30, the weeklong extravaganza is sure to put smiles on the faces of kids and parents alike.

Parents (and kid-free shopaholics, too) can save on heaps of back-to-school shopping at price points of $100 or less, all exempt from the state’s 6% sales tax. Included in the exemption? Clothing, footwear, non-protective sports uniforms, graduation caps and gowns, prom dresses, diapers, bridal dresses and more. Unfortunately, however, a fair amount of merchandise will remain taxable at the current rate, like school supplies and accessories such as backpacks, sports pads and helmets, baseball gloves and more.

If your items qualify, you can take advantage of Tax-Free Week at all your favorite retailers, big and small. Bonus: Online sales that are both paid for and delivered between August 14 and 20 are eligible as well. And don’t worry if you need to exchange that pair of jeans—even after Tax-Free week comes to an end, you can still make the exchange without being charged that pesky 6%.
