Editor’s Note November 2016

This month, we turn to early education. It’s never too early to get your child started learning and finding the right preschool can be an important part of all of your lives. At one point, I taught at a YMCA preschool and worked with 3- and 4-year-olds. It’s one of my favorite ages because kids are curious and excited, but don’t have much of a filter yet. They will say whatever pops into their minds—and it is often hilarious and, sometimes, even profound.

Nurturing these instincts makes not only for better students, but also for better humans. This issue, you’ll be able to hear firsthand accounts of some local preschools to get a feel for what it’s been like for these families.

November is also the start of the holiday season with Thanksgiving—and I’ll let our two columnists take it from there. From one starting traditions with her young family to the other, experiencing her first empty nest holiday season, they still know they have a lot to be thankful for.

And speaking of the holiday season (and awesome segues!), we’ve compiled our annual Santa Sightings page, so you know all the best places to ensure your child gets quality time with Old St. Nick. At this year’s Baltimore Christmas Village, you can even get your pets in on the fun.

This has also been the season for extreme weather. Hurricane Matthew hit recently, and it seems likely we’re in for at least one bad winter storm. So, what’s the best way to ensure you’re prepared? We have some tips to get you started.

It’s not quite winter, so let’s enjoy the crisp weather while we have it. Once you’ve hung up that turkey baster, break out the mistletoe and start the hoping (or not) for a white Christmas. Until then, happy Thanksgiving!
