Miracle on 34th Street

miracle34thstreetIt’s not just a couple of houses decked out in holiday lights. It’s the entire 700 block of 34th Street in Northeast Baltimore’s Hampden neighborhood lit up with festive decorations, many of them with quirky themes. There’s the hub cap Christmas tree, the bike rim snowmen, overhead trains, and the Big Red Lighted Crab. Play a game with the kids and see who can spot the crab first.

Now in its 70th year, this fun tradition began decades ago when resident Bob Hosier strung some lights on the tree in front of his house. The rest, as they say, is history. Gawkers from around the globe have witnessed this one-of-a-kind holiday display. Grab the kids and come see for yourself what all the hoopla’s about. You won’t be disappointed.

If you’re using your GPS to find the Miracle on 34th Street, plug in the address 720 West 34th Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21211. About Elizabeth Heubeck

Elizabeth Heubeck, a native of Baltimore, is a former editor of Baltimore's Child and the mother of two teenagers. Currently, she spends much of her spare time wishing she was a gourmet cook (or at least a solid short-order cook), hoping the piles of laundry would disappear and, in the warmer months, battling weeds in her flower beds.
